NAGA Coin (NGC) Now Listed on Bittrex

Earlier this week, NAGA Coin gained a prominent listing on the popular US-based cryptocurrency exchange Bittrex. ‘Another Day, Another Exchange’ NAGA Coin (NGC) achieved new listings on the popular cryptocurrency exchanges Bittrex and UpBit. Following NGC’s listing on the US-based exchange, the token’s price spiked from roughly $0.60 to as high as $1.05 — before natural profit-taking and a continued market-wide downtrend pushed the coin back down to what some may consider a very buyable $0.54. Immediately after being listed on Bittrex, the exchange garnered more than 30 percent of NGC trading volume — with the rest being shared by Upbit and OKEx. The Asian cryptocurrency market has thus far shown significant support for the European-based fintech company. Another day, another exchange! South African Kidnappers Demand a 15 Bitcoin Ransom

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies have always been appealing to criminals. Whereas most of the illegal activity takes place online, that is not always the case. In South Africa, a kidnapping of a 12-year-old child is making headlines. This is mainly because the kidnappers have demanded a 15 Bitcoin ransom prior to releasing the child. Another Bitcoin-related Kidnapping In the world of criminal activity, covering one’s tracks is not all that easy. This is especially true when dealing with payment methods which are far too easy to trace these days. For criminals, this means that using traditional payment methods is pretty much out of the question. That is why Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are so appealing these days, as they seemingly provide a more anonymous option. In South Africa, a very worrisome trend has begun to emerge over the past few years. […]

NEO’s NEP-5 Storage Injection Vulnerability Is Less Severe Than Assumed

The cryptocurrency world is subject to interesting developments at all times. In some cases, major vulnerabilities are discovered which need to be addressed. The NEP-5 smart contract storage injection vulnerability is of great concern in this regard. Some of NEO’s DApps are susceptible to this exploit, although the underlying blockchain remains unaffected. The NEP-5 Storage Injection Issue This particular smart contract and DApp vulnerability was originally disclosed several days ago. Red4Sec, a security auditor, came across this issue while doing some routine research. NEO Global Development has confirmed this problem exists and issued an official explanation as to what is going on exactly. It is important to keep in mind that this storage injection vulnerability does not affect the NEO blockchain itself, but rather some of the DApps making use of this technology. It seems various NEP-5 tokens are affected by this problem. If […]

Why the Travel Industry Needs Crypto-Driven Solutions

The travel industry is one that could highly benefit from transitioning to blockchain technology – and it needs to do so immediately. Despite substantial and continuous developments in engineering new machines for transportation, the supporting services attached to them have not progressed at the same pace. As international travel has become more and more common, the lapses and deficiencies of the stunted travel industry are painfully evident. To start with, the current system forces travelers to queue up way too many times before they can even get to their hotel – from airport check-ins to the baggage carousel to getting a cab to their hotel. Today, ride-hailing services eliminate the need to queue up for rides physically, so that’s an improvement. The tedious series of queues doesn’t end there: guests still have to fall in line again to check in at […]

Coinbase is one of the bigger household names in the world of cryptocurrency. The company is best known for offering its cryptocurrency exchange services to consumers from all over the world. However, even major companies have to keep evolving. As such, the firm recently acquired one of its smaller competitors, Paradex. An Interesting Acquisition by Coinbase In the world of cryptocurrency exchanges, competition is direly needed. Centralized trading platforms are the go-to gateways for novice enthusiasts looking to buy small, medium, and large amounts of cryptocurrency. Coinbase is one of the most popular platforms in this regard, even though there are a few competitors on the market as well. Surprisingly, it seems one of those smaller competitors has attracted the attention of Coinbase. Paradex is a platform which lets users trade virtual coins in a peer-to-peer manner. It is an […]

John McAfee Says Bitcoin Will Surpass $15,000 in June

John McAfee is back again with another flurry of bold cryptocurrency predictions. In a tweet on May 24th, the tech activist and internet security expert listed five cryptos that will experience huge gains in the summer. The tweet also contained some political predictions on U.S. foreign relations. Bitcoin Will Rise in June and Dip in July According to McAfee, “Bitcoin will surpass $15,000 in June.” The controversial crypto proponent, however, predicts that the spike will be short-lived as he said the number one crypto would dip in July. My short term price predictions: in a major dip, with nearly everything dropping, the price of Docademic doubled since my prediction. The market will turn before June 12th and my predictions will hit. My algorithms predicted Trump’s June 12th date. Bitcoin Price Watch: Currency Sits at $7,400

Bitcoin has experienced another price drop over the past 24 hours and is now sitting at just over $7,400. While the price falls have been small over the last two days (about $100 each), bitcoin remains on shaky ground, and the bears have not yet given up the reins. Analyst John Navin from Forbes says that for bitcoin to really enter an “uptrend,” it would have to strike the $18,500 mark. At press time, the currency cannot be labeled as a spiking coin, particularly because its December range was so high ($19,000+), so either way one looks at it, bitcoin will always be in a slump unless it surpasses that level. He further states that the next support position for bitcoin is $6,500, which is where it stood during early April. This suggests that bitcoin has the potential to fall […]

Bitcoin’s Price Will Probably Go to Zero, Major Investment Firm Head Says

There exists a decent probability that the price of Bitcoin will eventually go to zero, according to Joe Davis, the head of Vanguard Investment Strategy Group, a division of the global giant Vanguard Group. In a blog post published on Tuesday, May 21, Davis broke down his argument that cryptos don’t qualify as currencies and may soon be replaced by centralized blockchain-based currencies. Bitcoin Presents A Quandary A proponent of the ‘blockchain is good but cryptos are bad’ narrative, Davis is optimistic that the blockchain has great potential to revolutionize many industries, even stating that Vanguard is already using it. However, he is not as optimistic about Bitcoin, whose price he believes has a decent chance of going to zero. He listed the three characteristics of a currency: being a unit of account, being a medium of exchange, and being a store of value. […]

According to a local report by EuropaPress, Luis María Linde, was speaking earlier this week when he said that: “In my opinion, their current use (of cryptocurrencies) presents more risks than benefits: they have low acceptance as a means of payment, suffer extreme volatility, present multiple operational vulnerabilities and have been related to fraudulent or illicit activities in many cases.” In reference to ‘cryptotokens,’ Linde said ‘those spurious novelties that do not provide significant improvements should be tackled as soon as possible.’ However, while he doesn’t appear to have much faith in cryptocurrencies, the central bank’s governor spoke of the potential that the distributed ledger presents, claiming that it ‘offers interesting possibilities.’ Broadly speaking, though, he argued […]

It is evident the cryptocurrency market recovery process is still in full effect as we speak. Whether or not this will lead to any major changes, remains to be seen. More specifically, things look somewhat promising now, but things can turn around fairly quickly these days. For now, the Ethereum price seems to be on the right track, as $600 is well within reach. Can the Ethereum Price Reach $600? After yesterday’s cryptocurrency market onslaught, any bets are off the table as of right now. Over the past week, it appeared as if the Ethereum price would successfully surpass $750, but that momentum quickly turned against the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap. Instead of reaching $750, the value quickly began to drop to $700 or lower. In the past few days, the Ethereum price took another solid beating, just […]

Traders Think Regulatory Crackdown on Cryptocurrency Market Is a Good Thing

The cryptocurrency market is undergoing a shift as the issue of regulation remains at the fore of discussion; yet, according to some traders regulating the industry will be a good thing. Host of CNBC Africa’s ‘Crypto Trader’, and founder of OnChain Capital, Ran Neu-Ner, said on ‘Fast Money’ yesterday that with regulations put into place it will ‘open the floodgates for new money to come into crypto.’ He added that he encourages a crackdown in the market: “I hope that they can catch the people [conducting fraudulent activities], because we have to weed out the bad actors. If we have bad actors, it’s going to create a lack of trust in this asset class. If we want to make this a real asset class, with real people, then let’s weed out the bad actors. But the first step is, let’s legislate first; […]

Another One Bites the Dust: ShipChain Served with Cease and Desist Order

The Securities Division of the Office of the Attorney General in South Carolina has served ShipChain with an administrative order to cease and desist from conducting business transactions within the state. The ruling comes down after it was determined that the tokens offered by ShipChain during its ICO fell under the state’s legal definition of securities.  Oversight and tough calls are rampantly increasing on behalf of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in what is supposed to be an attempt to protect investors from fraudulent ICOs. Earlier this year, the SEC issued a report warning that certain ICOs might be classified as securities and, as such, exchanges which feature them needed to register with the SEC and to comply with the underlying regulations. In March, the State of Massachusetts led the march against ICOs, shutting down five different ICOs. Now, the State of […]
