Here Are Three Major Mistakes Made by New Traders

With increased public awareness of Bitcoin and altcoins, many new faces have recently entered the crypto scene for the first time. Of course, new traders will make many bad decisions, and for the most part, they will improve with time and experience. However, a number of these mistakes are common, and can easily be identified and avoided. Ignoring Market Cap Ignoring market capitalization is a pretty common issue that seems to persist almost universally among new traders. The mistake is that these traders look at the price of a coin, not its market cap, to decide whether or not to buy it. They look at coins like Ripple and Cardano as “cheap” and undervalued investments because they can buy so many units for so little. The mindset is that if Bitcoin could rise from such small amounts to where it is now, then surely […]

Goldman Sachs Is Establishing a Cryptocurrency Trading Desk

Goldman Sachs Is Establishing a Cryptocurrency Trading Desk In a sudden change of sentiment, Goldman Sachs has started to entertain the idea of having a Bitcoin strategy. While plenty of exchanges and ETFs have taken steps to get involved in this burgeoning sector, Goldman Sachs is the first major bank to consider opening up a market on Wall Street. A CHANGE IN THE INSTITUTIONAL TIDE Only a few months ago, Goldman Sachs was leery of the cryptocurrency market and its flagship star, Bitcoin. In October, the firm’s CEO, Lloyd Blankfein, tweeted that Goldman Sachs was still undecided on how it should approach the young and volatile assets. Come November, however, Blankfein noted that the banking giant was warming up to the idea of embracing the trend. Now, it appears as though Goldman Sachs is getting ready to grab the cryptocurrency bull by the horns. As reported by Bloomberg, the […]

Insurance Companies Blame Bitcoin for Ransomware Increase

Insurance companies, such as Chubb, are making a ransomware Bitcoin correlation, saying that the cryptocurrency’s rising price is leading to more ransomware attacks. Few things are as aggravating as having to pay a criminal ransom in order to gain access to your own files. Ransomware attacks have targeted everything from major corporations down to a local transit authority, and they’re increasing in frequency. Some of the insurance companies who have to deal with the fallout of such attacks are making a ransomware Bitcoin connection, saying that the rising number of such attacks is the cryptocurrency’s fault. Blaming Bitcoin In an interview with Bloomberg, three insurance companies laid the blame for an increase in ransomware claims upon Bitcoin’s shoulders. One such company is Zurich-based Chubb, and one of their executive vice presidents, Michael Tanenbaum, said that it’s the increased value of […]

Novogratz Delays Crypto Hedge Fund and Says Bitcoin Could Drop to $8000

One of the biggest bulls for Bitcoin, Michael Novogratz, has delayed the launch of his cryptocurrency hedge fund and believes Bitcoin could fall to $8,000. Bitcoin has been one of the most important financial stories in 2017, and as we stagger through the last few days of the year, Bitcoin still has a grip on the headlines. However, instead of the awe of Bitcoin soaring ever higher in value, there is shock as the cryptocurrency has plunged dramatically over the last week. One of the biggest bulls for Bitcoin over the last year is Michael Novogratz, and he now says that Bitcoin could drop as low as $8,000. Putting Plans on Hold While many analysts have minimized Bitcoin and how far it could go, Michael Novogratz was one of the few who always remained very optimistic about the virtual currency. […]

Bitcoin Cash Price Rebounds Strongly and Eyes $3,000 Target

The past two days have been pretty rough for most cryptocurrencies. When the Bitcoin price takes a big tumble, all alternative currencies will automatically follow suit. Thankfully, things are improving again, as can be seen by looking at the Bitcoin Cash price. More specifically, the Bitcoin Cash price is slowly approaching the $3,000 mark again. Christmas may turn out pretty decent for most cryptocurrency users after all. Bitcoin Cash Price is Recovering Nicely It is evident all cryptocurrencies took a major nosedive around 48 hours ago. This is mainly due to the Bitcoin price tanking, although it is evident this was only a much-needed correction which wouldn’t necessarily result in long-term bearish momentum whatsoever. Although we are not out of the woods just yet, it is safe to assume things have begun improving again over the past 24 hours. The […]

Central Banks Could Hold Cryptocurrencies in 2018

With Bitcoin and its smaller siblings gaining so much momentum in 2017, governments and central banks now have little choice but to acknowledge that cryptocurrencies are here to stay. Volatility is still a major setback, especially with Bitcoin, which has swung by $8,000 in just seven days. Of banks and cryptocurrency, Peter Smith, CEO of Blockchain, told CNBC in an interview last week: This year will be the first year we start to see central banks start to hold digital currencies as part of their balance sheet. Smith stated that central banks would likely buy Bitcoin and Ethereum as part of their reserves, just as they do with gold and foreign currency. The rise of Bitcoin as an asset would mean that some major financial institutions would have to start holding it. Smith went on to say: Bitcoin is already […]

Crypto Malware Targets Facebook Messenger

As Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies become more popular hackers and cybercriminals will devise ever more devious ways to exploit unsuspecting users and their computers. Facebook is probably home to the largest number of technology challenged people on the planet which makes it such an easy platform to disseminate malware. According to a report in The Independent, security researchers at Trend Micro have discovered malware that infects Facebook messenger in order to surreptitiously mine cryptocurrency. The mining bot, called Digmine, harnesses CPU resources in the background to mine Monero, an anonymous coin which currently trades for around $350. What Is Quedex?

Bitcoin futures and options are two interesting investment vehicles. Both expose people to Bitcoin price volatility without them even having to own the world’s leading cryptocurrency. It is an interesting take on things which seems to work quite well for mainstream investors. Quedex wants to get its share of the pie in this regard. This new platform warrants a closer look, although one always needs to do their own research before using such a service. An Overview of the Quedex Platform No one can deny Bitcoin futures are pretty interesting to take note of. They let anyone in the world “gamble” on the Bitcoin price movement without having to buy Bitcoin itself. It is something most mainstream speculators prefer over buying Bitcoin directly, as the latter process can be complicated and time-consuming. Quedex wants to offer even more Bitcoin futures and […]

CIO of Hedge Fund BlockTower Capital Reveals 3 Biggest Cryptocurrency Investment Risks

Ari Paul, CIO of cryptocurrency hedge fund BlockTower Capital, recently sat down with Business Insider’s Sara Silverstein to discuss the three main risks associated with investing in cryptocurrencies. 1. Investment Risks The first area of risk, according to Paul, is investment risk, by which he predominantly refers to the volatility of cryptocurrencies. All anyone has to do is take a look at Bitcoin’s performance over the past month to understand what he is talking about. Bitcoin started off the month trading at just under $10,000 – a point of tremendous growth in and of itself – and in less than three weeks it more than doubled in value, peaking at just over $20,000. Everybody was all about the bitcoin. CBOE and CME Group rolled out Bitcoin futures, Nasdaq said it would be following suit in 2018, there was even talk […]

Creating a Decentralized Digital Global Economy – Dai Goes Live

MakerDAO has been working towards creating a cryptocurrency that will support a stable, decentralized digital global economy. The result is Dai, the first fully-decentralized stablecoin on Ethereum. MakerDAO was formed three years ago with a big vision of creating a stable, decentralized digital global economy. It has worked its way out of the grassroots to finally launch Dai, a promising cryptocurrency that promises stability in currency valuation. Understanding Dai’s Valuation Dai is currently worth 1 USD. It is designed to have low volatility against the world’s leading national currencies, such as the Euro and USD. MakerDAO has two mechanisms to ensure that this happens. For starters, Dai has an autonomous system of smart contracts that monitors the market’s dynamics and responds accordingly. This system is designed to be independent so that no one can alter its mechanism. As such, even MakerDAO […]

EtherDelta Has Been Compromised Due to DNS Hijack

It would almost seem as if anything Ethereum-related is bound to face some setbacks sooner or later. More specifically, we have seen a lot of Ethereum-related platforms and ICOs suffer major problems throughout 2017. A formal filing with the SEC has been made to list two ProShares Bitcoin exchange-traded funds. Can Bitcoin ETFs Finally Come Through? Earlier this year, a lot of people had high hopes that the SEC would finally approve Bitcoin ETFs. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Meet Kengoro, the Robotic Humanoid Capable of Sweating

Not a day goes by without some interesting development in the world of technology. Especially when it comes to robotics and their capabilities, there’s still room for improvement. Although most of these machines make humans look lazy, there is now a robot capable of doing crunches and push-ups while breaking a sweat. It sounds pretty unusual, but there is a certain appeal to this concept as well. Sweating Robots Working out Like Humans On paper, there is absolutely no reason for a robot to perform either crunches or push-ups. After all, a robot doesn’t have fat to burn, muscles to train or a mind capable of feeling the enjoyment of working out. All of this begs the question, why would engineers even explore the idea of creating a device capable of exercising? The most logical answer to this question would be “because […]

Polymath Aims to Legalize ICOs by Helping Companies Issue Securities Tokens

Initial coin offerings have become a big liability in the world of finance. That’s not only because a fair few of them are outright scams, but also because most of the tokens are securities. As a result, we will see a growing list of projects which violate securities law, especially in the US. This is where Polymath comes into the picture, as this platform helps companies issue securities tokens. Polymath and Securities Tokens It is evident a lot of companies taking the ICO route offer something they officially can’t without regulatory approval. So far, there have been virtually no ICOs whose tokens aren’t designed to derive value over time from speculation and product development. As a result, every single one of these projects is in violation of existing securities laws, something that is often frowned upon by regulators. This has become pretty apparent […]

Respondents mentioned that DLT solutions could help provide and deliver on regulatory requirements considerably better than current systems can, while reducing costs for both regulators and firms operating in the DLT market. This has been a remarkable year for Bitcoin, skyrocketing in value to heights few would have believed several years ago. Yet one aspect of the daddy of cryptocurrency has been generating dramatic and alarmist headlines: the energy needed to both mine Bitcoin and for transacting it. A great deal of worry and hand-wringing has been done as some say that the current pace of power use will soon outstrip that of the United States and, eventually, the world. Anxious Asian Authorities Grapple with Crypto

The nations of Asia are responsible for well over half of the total global volume of cryptocurrency trading. The Asian trading session often dictates how the rest of the day will play out when traders wake up in Europe and the US. However, the governments of the region are growing uneasy about the increasing appetite their people have for cryptocurrencies. One of the world’s largest exchanges, Bitfinex, is owned by a Hong Kong-based company. South Korea’s Bithumb is also a huge player for crypto trading volume, and then there is Binance, bitFlyer, and Coinone, all based in Southeast Asia. There is no doubt that Asians are the driving force when it comes to trade volumes. Nervous Governments According to a CNBC report, regulators in the Asia Pacific region have become increasingly uneasy with the rise in popularity of Bitcoin and […]

Why this ICO will be used by hundreds of millions of car owners

The German police have estimated that approximately every 3rd car has been subject to odometer fraud. Further, they estimate that on average, the illegal increase of a used car’s value lays around 3.000 €. That means that only in Germany, the yearly losses amount to almost 6 Billion Euros. In fact, the industry is so problematic, that Forbes mentions a few problems: Odometer fraud still cheats U.S. consumers out of $1 billion annually by exaggerating the value of used cars, and One of every six used cars listed for sale in the United States has been in an accident. With a soaring trend of buying used cars across the globe, many consumers face an ever-rising issue of buying cars with fake odometer readings or hidden defects. While many current solutions exist, there’s no “one stop shop” solution for vehicle history […]

Poor Bitcoin Security

The article you are about to read highlights the security of Bitcoin infrastructure and provides its in-depth analysis as compared to commonplace fiat currencies. The general perception of Bitcoin is that it is a highly secure decentralized type of currency bolstered by strong, military-grade cryptographic algorithms. Furthermore, the holder of “digital cash” doesn’t have to disclose any personally identifiable information when transacting, as opposed to providing a credit card number and security code in a regular payment scenario. It is also generally believed that although Bitcoin-related services have been breached a few times, threat actors never compromised the underlying protocol. But is it all so black and white? Layers of Bitcoin security architecture It reasonable to split the discussion of Bitcoin security into the following two levels: The safety of the protocol and blockchain technology. XRP Price Continues to Hover Near $1 During Crypto Market Turmoil

When the Bitcoin price becomes extremely volatile, one would assume all altcoins follow the same pattern. So far, that has been proven to be correct once again. However, XRP is successfully bucking the trend. After surpassing $1 for the first time in history, the XRP price hasn’t budged all that much despite Bitcoin’s wild swings. An interesting development well worth paying attention to. XRP Price Remains on Track Big was people’s surprise when they suddenly saw the XRP price move all the way to $1 and beyond yesterday. Although some level-headed people know that is still a low value for what this digital asset has to offer, XRP is not safe from wild cryptocurrency fluctuations either. In the past, the XRP price would be heavily linked to Bitcoin’s value. These days, that seems to be a thing of the past, although […]
