Few factors, if any, are more crucial to e-commerce success than referrals. Referrals turn the foolproof advertising concept of word-of-mouth into a well-rounded marketing strategy that many businesses use to acquire users. This wasn’t possible in the age before social media. Referrals work because they’re simple. Referral structures are easy to install on a website, and easy for customers to use. Apps and tools help companies run and troubleshoot their referral programs with minimal effort. Referrals can be deployed across almost every facet of an online business: email, push notifications, inhouse apps, and the homepage. But referral programs aren’t working for social influencers, especially the larger ones. Influencers large and small do get some kickback through these programs, but it’s not enough. The reason? Their rewards programs don’t reflect how referrals boost long-term site traffic. Fortune claims that the average Amazon Prime member […]

A growing number of start-ups and larger companies have begun to experiment with blockchain’s utility for solving public health crises — like the opioid epidemic in the United States. Cryptocurrencies have had a testy relationship with some law enforcement figures in the United States, who see popular forms like Bitcoin as a scapegoat for an ongoing opioid crisis. The infamous Silk Road marketplace, commonly associated with drug sales, accepted Bitcoin for transactions. This put the digital coin under the scrutiny of law enforcement after authorities shuttered the site and arrested the infamous Ross Ulbricht (Dread Pirate Roberts). In May, authorities arrested Aaron Shamo and accused him of selling fentanyl. Police said he accepted Bitcoin as payment and allegedly found more than 500 virtual coins in his home. Cryptocurrency As A Scapegoat At roughly the same time, a growing number of […]
Utah-based Overstock.com is showing just how bullish they are when it comes to Bitcoin and blockchain technology. Going forward, they will be making disruptive technology more of a focus. Four years ago, Bitcoin was celebrating reaching the $1,000 milestone. Adoption, interest, and even awareness was nowhere near what it is now, but some companies could already see the impact that cryptocurrencies would have on the future. One such company, Overstock.com, made their intentions clear in 2014 when they began accepting virtual currencies as payment on their e-commerce site. Change of Focus for Overstock While the company does, of course, still have an interest in online retailing, KSL recently reported that the Utah-based platform will shift their focus to blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies. In fact, the platform’s CEO, Patrick Byrne, had previously disclosed that Overstock.com would be “developing more nontraditional means of […]

It appears there is some excitement brewing among Litecoin enthusiasts. Even though the Litecoin price is not necessarily moving all that much, it would appear the ecosystem is in a slightly better place than most of its competitors. A new roundup of news seems to have a positive impact in this regard. Litecoin Price Inches Ahead It is evident most of the selling pressure has been removed from the cryptocurrency markets. That is a welcome sight, as the past few days have been rather unpleasant first and foremost. For the Litecoin price, the recent dip has negated its attempt at surpassing $70 altogether, although that price trend may still be reached later this year. Litecoin community members are seemingly looking forward to what the future may hold. Some interesting observations are worth paying attention to in this regard. Technical analysis […]
Bitcoin has suffered insurmountable losses over the past two days. Roughly 15 percent has wiped away from bitcoin’s value, and at press time, the price stands at about $6,404 – virtually unchanged from yesterday. It wouldn’t be so bad if at the beginning of the week the currency wasn’t trading for approximately $7,300. Some analysts claim that bitcoin is simply waiting around – treading water while anticipating the next big move from either the bulls or the bears respectively. Jon Pearlstone – head publisher of the newsletter Crypto Patterns – explains: “BTC continues to trade in a range between key support and resistance of $6,000 and $7,250. However, we don’t see that lasting much longer. The bulls’ last stand is strong support at $6,000 that’s hodling for now, and we’ve seen some bullish signs from the altcoin market, but BTC […]
Analysts are always seeking new ways to assess cryptocurrencies. Different metrics provide insights that can be used to gauge various trends, such as estimating when a particular asset has bottomed out and is due to rise. The Altcoin Correction Index provides an unvarnished snapshot of this year’s worst performing cryptos. Also read: Blockchain, Reloaded: How the New “Matrix” Appeared Altcoins Haven’t Performed This Badly Since 2014 Whatever metric you choose to apply, altcoins aren’t looking so pretty this year. Just one crypto asset in the top 100 is in the green (BNB) while everything else is down an average of 70-90%. It doesn’t require sophisticated analytical tools to appreciate the extent of the altcoin bloodbath that has occurred. Nevertheless, historical trends can provide an indicator, some believe, as to when the worst may be over and a recovery can be expected. […]

A closer look at which industries receive VC funding VS ICO funding The number one use case for blockchain technology has arguably been the concept of the Initial Coin Offering (ICO). Before the ICO stormed the scene nearly all startups looking to scale would have to raise funds through established funding models such as through VC’s. Then along came a Blockchain called Ethereum and a thing called ERC20 tokens. Basically anyone with coding expertise could come along and create these tokens on the Ethereum network. Along with the timing and the hype surrounding cryptocurrency it became so easy to raise millions of dollars with very little effort. Formula on How To Raise Millions of $$$ ICO = 1. Fancy looking landing page Website + 2. A White Paper consisting of a few pages with high level promises of disrupting something. No Business model, MVP or […]
The overall cryptocurrency sentiment is borderline depressive as of right now. Another major market dip has caused speculators to question their positions. Not everything is doom and gloom, according to a survey by SharesPost. The long-term expectations for Bitcoin and altcoins are still somewhat optimistic, despite current market conditions. SharesPost Survey offers a Glimpse of Hope There isn’t much to be positive about as a cryptocurrency holder right now. All markets face another big setback after a few days of solid upward momentum. This dip is not entirely unexpected, albeit the severity of it took a lot of traders by surprise. It is important to look toward the future when developments like these materialize. The new survey by SharesPost shows there is still optimism among traders. Not outspoken jubilation, but rather a cautious hope for better things to come. Nearly […]
Bitcoin price has risen dramatically in Iran following the government’s decision to grant legal recognition to the country’s cryptocurrency mining industry. Bitcoin Premium Comes to Iran While Bitcoin 00 suffered an almost $1,000 drop in the rest of the world, the top-ranked cryptocurrency was reaching new heights in Iran. Buoyed by the government’s legalization of cryptocurrency mining activities, the local price of BTC shot up to more than $26,000 on the localbitcoins platform for Iran. This figure amounts to more than four times than the average spot price around the world. However, there are counter reports that the $20,000+ BTC price in Iran is grossly exaggerated, with the actual value on the street being closer to $8,400. The confusion lies primarily in the difference between the official and black market exchange rial/dollar exchange rate. Iran’s inflation rate as of 8/11/18 […]

Daily Berminal Brief (9/7/18): Fake News and the Bitcoin Blues Drag the Cryptocurrency Market Capitalization Below $205 Billion The State of the Market: What a week it has been! Bitcoin crashed and lead the rest of the cryptocurrency market to literally erase an entire month’s worth of gains in mere minutes. Meanwhile, it turns out that part of the news that helped kickstart the crisis is fake. According to Goldman Sachs CFO, Martin Chavez, there are no plans to shelve the Bitcoin trading desk and the news is literally, “Fake News”. In other refutations which prior to be invalidated may have helped crush Bitcoin price, Changpeng Zhao of Binance explicitly stated that there are no plans for Binance to hold an IPO. Perhaps in the week ahead financial and crypto-media outlets could spent a little more time and due diligence checking […]
It’s not secret that a dauntingly large percentage of ICOs are fraudulent from the start. However, in most cases, it’s quite simple for speculators to separate the scams, and funds are primarily accumulated from inexperienced or otherwise naive investors that the coin offering targets. Unfortunately, every now and then, these scams pass, unsuspected, until the perpetrators successfully make off with the funds, often worth tens of millions of dollars. ABLE Project (ABLX), represents one such instance. Its team members consist of stock pictures and fake LinkedIn profiles, and listed advisors are industry leaders throughout Southeast Asia unaware that they were listed as participants of the project. Unfortunately, ABLX raised more than 10,000 ETH throughout several public pre-sale and global sales between April and August. At time of purchases, this amounts to approximately US$6.5 million worth of Ether. Able was officially […]
Over the last few years, there’s been a lot of projects, both public and private, that are attempting to create a next-generation blockchain or something better than Satoshi’s Bitcoin. A great majority of these projects have condemned proof-of-work (PoW) cryptocurrencies because they think they waste resources, and many of these new blockchains have chosen to use a proof-of-stake (PoS) system. However, PoS has many flaws and introduces a distribution process that advocates an ugly planned economy that’s propagated by ancient thinking and basically the old banking system. Ethereum continues its highly mixed fortunes this week as talk of development milestones contrasts with Ether (ETH) hitting its lowest price in a year. Troubled Times For ETH Data from Coinmarketcap confirms that ETH/USD 00 currently trading at around $225 marks the pair’s lowest level since mid-September 2017. Downward pressure on the largest altcoin had increased in recent days after Bitcoin suddenly fell by almost $1000 on controversial claims Goldman Sachs had shelved its cryptocurrency product plans. While investor confidence in Bitcoin remains broadly unfazed, altcoin holders have long since begun to worry, with ETH attracting particularly vocal no confidence votes in recent months. As Bitcoinist reported in July, for example, a dedicated “Bearish Thesis” on the asset from Tetras Capital painted a grave outlook, claiming its already deflated price was still “significantly overvalued.” Speaking to CNBC this week meanwhile, […]

A Bitcoin exchange-traded fund sanction by the US Securities and Exchange Commission is widely perceived as one of the catalysts for a potential rally of cryptocurrency prices. Despite the recent rejections, the Commission might see its voting balance re-distributed as Trump appoints a pro-crypto character as his latest Commissioner. Pro-Cryptocurrency Appointment Republican Elad Roisman is the fourth appointment of President Donald J. Trump to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This is serious news for the field of cryptocurrencies as Roisman has already signaled his intentions to focus further legislative attention on the fair treatment of digital coins. Supposedly, the decision was made because of ongoing regulatory uncertainty. The news appeared to send the price of the world’s largest cryptocurrencies and other digital coins into a steady decline, as the asset lost over 15 percent of its value shortly after. 2018 has proven to be rather successful for the initial coin offering industry. This is despite some of the key risks and pitfalls associated with ICOs still remaining place. With so many new investors joining the risk, the five following best practices are need to be taken into account at all times. Culling the weed from the chaff in the ICO industry is direly needed. #5 Unprofessional Language Any self-respecting project or company looking to raise funds through an ICO needs to ensure the wording on their website is professional. Any website which has blatant spelling mistakes or an obvious case of “Engrish” can hint at a potential scam first and foremost. While spelling mistakes can happen to anyone, an initial coin offering trying to raise millions should never look unprofessional. #4 Fake Business Address Companies who seek to embrace […]

Stellar was unable to hold on to its earlier gains and was rejected at the top of its triangle resistance. Price slumped back to support and broke even lower, reading the 0.1930 area. XLM bounced off this region and is currently pulling back to the 50% Fibonacci retracement level on the breakout move. A larger correction could last until the broken triangle support around the 0.2200 mark and moving averages’ dynamic inflection points. On the subject of moving averages, the 100 SMA is below the longer-term 200 SMA to indicate that the path of least resistance is to the downside. If that happens, buying pressure could return and put the price […]
Let’s be honest, unless you’re short, yesterday was catastrophic. Bitcoin was just shy of breaking $7,500 and taking the rally up another leg then unexpectedly plunged 13% and now we’re below $7k, again… Bitcoin Price Market Overview Prior to the dump, Bitcoin price BTC/USD 00 was experiencing continued rejections as it approached $7,400 but who would have known the pullback would be this severe? Ideally, after a 27%+ run, consistent rejections signal that bulls are running out of steam and a pullback to say $7,300 – $7,100 would be sensible as lower highs and rejections function as a profit taking signal for some. On deeper reflection, there were some external signals that something was amuck. A wallet address rumored to be connected to the Silk Road mysteriously awoke after a nearly 4-and-a-half year long nap to quietly distribute 11,114 BTC […]

Bitcoin recently fell through its rising trend line which had been holding since mid-August, indicating that a downtrend is underway. Price is finding support at the $6,300 area, though, and might be ready for a pullback from here. Applying the Fib retracement tool shows that the 61.8% level is closest to the broken trend line support, which might hold as resistance moving forward. The 38.2% Fib lines up with the 200 SMA dynamic inflection point while the 50% Fib is closer to the 100 SMA. On the subject of moving averages, the 100 SMA is above the longer-term 200 SMA to indicate that the path of least resistance is to the upside. In other words, the uptrend is more likely to resume than to reverse. However, Bitcoin has tumbled below both these dynamic inflection points to reflect the presence of […]
