US Secret Service Wants Anonymous Cryptocurrencies Tackled by Congress

A lot of crypto enthusiasts desire privacy when using their coins, but law enforcement has other ideas. The US Secret Service recently asked Congress to tackle anonymous cryptocurrencies. One of the original benefits touted about cryptocurrency was that one could be completely anonymous in how it was used. Such has proven not to be the case as transactions can be tracked across the blockchain. This has led to a rise in privacy-focused coins, such as Monero and Zcash. However, governments and law enforcement are leery about these anonymous cryptocurrencies. Wanting Legislative Help The US Secret Service is not thrilled by the use of these anonymous cryptocurrencies, and they’re asking Congress to do something about it. Analyst Todd Gordon Predicts Bitcoin Price Rebound to $10,000

The negative year for Bitcoin continues to plod along as the coin recently hit a four-month low. However, analyst Todd Gordon still believes that a Bitcoin price rebound to $10,000 is coming. It goes without saying that 2018 hasn’t been the kindest year to Bitcoin. The number one cryptocurrency by market cap nearly reached $20,000 back in mid-December 2017. Since then, the value has dropped to $6,189 (at time of writing). While there are plenty of doom-and-gloom predictions being written, not everyone believes that the crypto ride is bottoming out. Standing by Bitcoin Price Upswing Analyst Todd Gordon of tradinganalysis.com recently spoke to CNBC. He said that he fully expected Bitcoin to drop in value, as what has happened this year. Top 7 Ways to Protect Yourself Against Cryptojacking

Cryptojacking is on the rise. In fact, it’s now one of the fastest-growing types of cybercrime. And here’s the real kicker: you don’t have to be involved in cryptocurrency to become a victim. In fact, just about as idyllic as Satoshi’s white paper, cryptojacking is completely blind to status, wealth, or centralized organizations. According to Steve Morgan, Founder and Editor-in-Chief at Cybersecurity Ventures, “Cryptojacking is one of the fastest-growing cybercrimes globally, and the resulting theft of cryptocurrency is incalculable at this time. But, cybercrooks beware, law enforcement agencies have ramped up … the surveillance, capture, arrest, and prosecution of financial cybercriminals … and the online perpetrators can expect stiff sentences for cryptojacking.” What Is Cryptojacking Again? If it sounds faintly familiar, that’s probably because you heard about electric car manufacturer Tesla getting cryptojacked back in February. Or perhaps about the […]

Incent Loyalty celebrates ‘Bitcoin Pizza’ moment with first real-world transaction

Incent has been used to settle a $1,400 bill with a local restaurant – the token’s very own Bitcoin Pizza moment! Every year, on 22 May, the crypto community marks Bitcoin Pizza Day. Back in 2010 Laszlo Hanyecz, a developer and early adopter, paid 10,000 BTC, worth $50 at the time, to have two Papa Johns pizzas delivered to him. Bitcoin Pizza Day is celebrated for two reasons. It’s considered the first ever real-world BTC transaction and a milestone for virtual currency. Secondly, it’s a reference point for how far bitcoin has come. At today’s prices, Hanyecz paid almost $70 million for his pizza! Incent, a loyalty currency hosted on the Waves blockchain, has just experienced its very own Bitcoin Pizza moment. In May, when some of Incent’s overseas team were visiting, a group from the company went to the […]

Since Twitter Won’t Stop Crypto Scammers, These Services Will

One of the most maddening things about lookalike Twitter scammers has been Twitter’s unwillingness to do anything about them. It’s not a complex problem to solve, and yet for months the micro-blogging service has prevaricated while the gullible public has given their ether away to flagrant scammers. A couple of third party services have now sprung up promising to solve the problem. If Twitter can’t stop crypto scammers, they will. Also read: Bitcoin Funded Silk Road Performance Earns a Residency at Trafalgar Studios Developers Are Taking Matters Into Their Own Hands Crypto scams have been plaguing Twitter all year. They usually involve the scammer mimicking the account of a crypto influencer and then replying to their tweets promising free ETH for anyone who sends a small amount initially. Why any benefactor should require cryptocurrency in order to send out more cryptocurrency […]

ICOs: bullshitting on steroids

Chamath Palihapitiya from Social Capital is, for me at least, the most influential innovator in the VC world. He’s also a very candid person. During his interview at Stanford, he delivered an impressive review of the startup world: “…Everybody is bullshitting. That’s what it means… If anybody looks at you and tells you they know what the fuck they’re doing, they’re lying”. Even more impressively, he builds his argument on the data analysis declaring that only 2% of the Valley investors in the biggest companies since the 1970s’ overlapped. That means that no investor has found a magic formula on how to allocate capital properly and how to pick the winner. It’s just a guessing game for the high net worth individuals. I’ve seen another analysis that says that 92% of startups fail within 3 years… Last year people got overdosed with […]

Privacy Coins Are ‘One of the Greatest Emerging Threats to U.S. National Security,’ States US Congressman

The U.S. Secret Service is taking a good look at privacy-focused cryptocurrencies like Monero and Zcash while urging Congress to “consider additional legislative or regulatory actions.” Fear of Privacy Coins Last week, a top official from the federal law enforcement agency reportedly requested help from Congress in combating the use of privacy coins for illicit purposes. Robert Novy, Deputy Assistant Director of the Secret Service’s Office of Investigations, wrote: We should … consider additional legislative or regulatory actions to address potential challenges related to anonymity-enhanced cryptocurrencies. He added, as reported by Forbes: [C]ontinued Congressional attention is warranted to ensure law enforcement agencies maintain lawful access to critical sources of evidence, regardless of where, or in what form, that information is stored. Greg Nevano, an official in the investigations division of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, backed up Novy’s opinion, stating: Some […]

He is also leaving the same role at Bitfinex’s partner company, Tether Ltd., issuers of a stablecoin (USDT) that is pegged 1:1 in value to the US Dollar. Potter Steps Down In an emailed statement released to the media on Friday, Potter stated: As Bitfinex pivots away from the U.S., I felt that, as a U.S. person, it was time for me to rethink my position as a member of the executive team. All Eyes Are on Bitfinex Bitfinex […]

Bitcoin Could Easily Bottom at $2500, Claims Analyst

As the price of Bitcoin struggles to stay above $6000, the eyes of the cryptocurrency world remain firmly fixed on the market leader.  ‘There is Nothing Preventing $2500 from Being the Bottom’ Various analysts and experts have weighed in on Bitcoin’s current woes, providing their opinions on what the future holds for the first and foremost cryptocurrency. One such expert is Luis Carranza, the founder of London Fintech Week, who told Express.co.uk that — despite reaching yearly lows — there are still plenty of reasons to remain bullish in the long term. He stated: Crypto is unpredictable. There are massive spikes and drops. $4500 could be the bottom, but there is nothing preventing $2500 from being the bottom. Likewise, as crypto becomes more mainstream the price tends to rise. Even if the price drops to $1000 there’s nothing preventing another […]

Free Cryptocurrency Trading When Robinhood first announced at the end of January 2018 that it would be launching zero-fee cryptocurrency trading, reactions within the crypto and financial communities were swift. Within just four days of the announcement, more than one million people had signed up for early access to the Robinhood Crypto app. In the days following the app’s official launch in February, growing interest and excitement sparked a flood of new customers – as […]
